Teachers Training Weekend in Copenhagen with Ali&Katja

(registration at the bottom of the page)

Sat, 27th of October – Sun, 28th of October 2012

Most great teachers we’ve met like it nerdy… in fact, the nerdier the better. Whether they’re working full-time in their local scene, teach for their local non-profit association or hold drop-in classes at a university, the passionate ones all share this desire to improve. SwingShoes is excited to present a nerdy-weekend workshop exclusively for social dance teachers!

If you teach Lindy hop, Charleston, Balboa, Blues, Boogie-Woogie or Shag this is a perfect occasion for you to pick up many new teaching tools and concepts.

If you’ve participated in previous teachers training workshops with Ali&Katja, you can expect lot’s of new concepts and materials as well as updated and refined core concepts.

The structure of the classes is designed for you to learn a new concept, then immediately work on implementing it into your own classes in your own dance style.
You will work in sessions where you will implement a new concept and, if you like, teach a 5-10 minute version of one of your classes to get direct feedback from the group. This structure strikes a good balance between sitting down to focus on the concepts, and getting up to dance and implement what you’ve just learned into your personal classes.

New pedagogic tools you’ll learn:

  • „Hierarchy of learning“ Strike a balance between „knowing, feeling and doing“
  • Flow 2:0! A creative way to build impressive classes
  • Communication skills to project confidence, clarity and humility
  • Projection techniques to raise your students
  • Words that builds vs. Words that breaks connection to your students

Core Concepts:

  • use the “Abstraction Zoom” to switch between INSPIRING your students and     building deeper UNDERSTANDING
  • use “One Voice One Message” to talk less and let your students dance more, while     still covering all the material you planned
  • build fun and challenging classes that keep your students coming back to your classes wanting to learn more

Your Program:

A big part of the workshop will be on helping you create your own concepts and syllabuses to have something concrete for your next classes:

Albert Einstein said “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler”. In dance, this means taking a complex technique or move and breaking it down into smaller pieces to make it as simple as possible. However, Einstein also warned not to “over-simplify”. For your classes, this means recognizing the right level of simplicity, and instead of “dumbing down” an explanation breaking it down into a step-by-step procedure that will help you share your ideas to your students.
