Volunteering
Join our volunteer team and make SwingShoes even better
Swingshoes is a non-profit association, driven by the voluntary efforts of our dedicated members. All our funds and all of our time goes directly back to what we love most: Dancing and spreading the joy of swing dance.
Join us if you want to be part of our network of volunteers, buzzing with life, friendships, and great experiences. Our volunteers organize the coolest dance events, have fun teaching our members dancing lessons, and help us provide teaching from top international names on a regular basis.
You will hear the heartbeats of volunteers in everything we do, from dance instructors to DJs, course coordinators, auditing of the association’s accounts, design of IT solutions, AV, PA, provision of music and film nerdery, dance events, t-shirt printing, tidying up in the basement, even the board members volunteer, and much, much more.
Being a volunteer in Swingshoes is about personal and shared development. You will have the opportunity to develop your organizational and creative skills, build a strong network, and not least experience the unique satisfaction of seeing your efforts bear fruit in the form of a vibrant and flourishing dance community.
Become a volunteer
Depending on your interests, you can contribute by:
- DJ’ing at Monday and Thursday socials, end-of-rounds, and parties
- Handling practical tasks, such as closing down the building after Monday and Thursday socials, setting up venues for parties, and cleaning up after parties
- Doing communication on our website or social media
- Doing administrative tasks, like administering classes and memberships
- Teaching weekly classes and tasters
If you want to become a volunteer (except for teaching), you can fill out your contact details and your interests here. Then we will get in touch when we have spots that we need to fill.
You can also contact Trine Flygenring at trine@swingshoes.dk.
You can find the schedules and manuals for the social dances at Resources for volunteers [link].
If you would like to teach, the path varies between the dance styles. For the weekly lindyhop classes, we have a teacher track for people who are at lindy 8 level or equivalent. Here, you get to follow experienced teachers, learn about jazz history, and reflect upon your own dancing and teaching style. Openings for the track will be announced.
For taster classes and for blues (and balboa?), the process is less formalized. If you have an interest in teaching, we encourage you to have a chat with the teachers in the scene.
Organize an event
Do you have an idea for a party, a workshop, or some international teachers that you would love to see in Copenhagen? Then we can help you make it happen!
In Swingshoes, we have a budget to fund projects, which can be events, classes with international teachers, etc. If you have an idea for an event or a project, you can fill out the form below, and we will get in touch with you. You don’t have to fill out everything, but the more information we have, the easier.
You can also contact Ea Meyer at ea@swingshoes.dk.
