How did you start dancing Lindy Hop?
I was watching a lot of videos of Boogie Woogie piano playing on YouTube and soon Boogie Woogie dancing videos began showing up in my feed. I was immediately fascinated by the energy and expressiveness of the dance, and fortunately a Facebook event promoting swing dancing at Studenterhuset in Copenhagen was coming my way in the fall of 2021. I attended and have been dancing since then.
What does swing dance mean to you?
To me, swing dance represents cultural appreciation – it’s a joyful way to connect with the roots of the dance as well as the generations who have kept it alive. It’s like stepping into a time machine with great music, laughter, and connection while staying completely in the moment.
What do you love most about teaching?
I am new to teaching swing dance, but I look forward to watching how each dancer adds their own style when trying out new moves while exploring fun, rhythm, and musicality.
What’s your favourite jazz song or artist?
While I do not have a single favorite jazz song or artist, I think Count Basie has made several “swing classics”. I also enjoy listening to Katie Webster.
Fun fact or secret talent?
I enjoy creating playlists across a wide range of genres – dancing to them is a fun and inspiring way to develop familiar moves through different rhythms.
