How did you start dancing?
I have danced since I could walk and never stopped, so now I’m doing it professionally. I have danced a lot of different dances and still do, everything from flamenco to dance theatre to hip hop etc, but Lindy hop has a very special place in my heart. I found out it existed from a friend while I lived in Aalborg many years ago and luckily enough there was a tiny community there! They taught me enough to get started before I moved and began traveling and learning through social dancing wherever I went.
What do you love most about teaching?
To pass on the excitement, knowledge and love that I have for this dance and to see when my students get hooked as I did when I started. I love experiencing the moments where my students light up when they suddenly get a move and have found a way to connect with it in their own bodies.
What does swing dancing mean to you?
It means so many things. It is a way for me to play and a way to express myself, - to connect with myself and others as well as a way to float into the music and forget everything else. Dancing lindy hop has also helped me through difficult times and has been healing. And of course swing dance means a great community!
What’s your favourite jazz song or artist?
Uh difficult question.. I love so many.. But Ella Fitzgerald was a star for a reason, I love her voice and interpretation of songs. A song I really like is On The Sunny Side of The Street, I can’t help but sing along with it while dancing. Another wonderful song is On a Coconut Island with Louis Armstrong. I love dancing to all of Count Basie’s songs as well. I could go on for long, but I guess this is enough..
Fun fact or secret talent?
I really can’t stop dancing if the music is still playing in the dance floor. If you want to keep me awake and dancing until 9 AM you know how.. I’m not kidding, that’s me at lindy hop festivals..
