How did you start dancing?

My aunt started dancing Lindy Hop and after some time she convinced me to sign up for a beginner workshop. I had very low expectations since dancing was something I connected more with a night out than a Sunday morning in a studio. But I was completely blown away! Since then I haven’t stopped dancing and just keep wanting more.

What do you love most about teaching?

The best thing about teaching is sharing the love for Lindy Hop with other dancers! It is great to see people light up when they start to feel the joy of the dance. On a personal level, preparing class material pushes me to explore the dance more deeply, which helps me understand the dance better. This gives me a lot of joy.

What does swing dancing mean to you?

Friendship and freedom are the two words that come to mind for me. Dancing Lindy Hop is a space where I can let go of the everyday troubles and enjoy the music and the moment with my partner. And more than anything, it’s the friendships I’ve made through dancing that mean the most. I feel really lucky to be part of the community.

What’s your favourite jazz song or artist?

I do have a weakness for Illinois Jacquet. There is just something about his saxophone playing and the often good fast tempo songs that makes me want to dance! If you haven’t already, then give “Blow, Illinois, Blow” a listen.

Fun fact or secret talent?

One of my other hobbies is scuba diving. I absolutely love to gear up and dive down to the undersea world!
