How did you start dancing?

I started dancing Lindy Hop in my hometown back in 2007, when an acquaintance of mine returned from a weekend workshop in Germany, where he had taken Lindy Hop classes for the first time and decided he needed to start the first Lindy Hop scene in Iceland. After months of trying to get me and a few others to learn the dance from him, I finally said yes. I never looked back, and that acquaintance became a dear friend.

What do you love most about teaching?

Oh so many things. Creating a positive and fun atmosphere for learning is one, as well as trying to make a positive impact and seeing students grow as dancers.

What does swing dancing mean to you?

It means history, and a culture of creative expression. It is where a fun communication with your partner can lead to 3-5 minutes of pure joy.

What’s your favourite jazz song or artist?

Hard question and one that has changed many times for me over the years. It's hard to beat Count Baise, but for me I have a keen fondness of Fats Waller. His songs are always a delight to dance to. A strong rhythm section with lots of riff and rhythms to play with. Even though my favorite song at the moment is with the Willie Bryant Orchestra and is called Rigamarole.

Fun fact or secret talent?

Give me a fedora, porkpie or bowler hat and I'll show you…
