How did you start dancing?
A warm summer night, after a team-building event, a colleague of mine decided to teach us some Charleston steps on Amager beach after which I instantly thought I had to try it again someday. Then covid hit and it would be a while before I could sign up for classes, but since then there's only been one way forward.
What do you love most about teaching?
I wanted to get into teaching to give back to the community some of the joy it has given me. I am, however, new to teaching at this point so my experience is limited, but the few moments I have had when a student really starts to have fun or suddenly "gets it" has been totally worth it.
What does swing dancing mean to you?
To me Lindy Hop means joy, connecting and having a space to be yourself, something only made possible by such a great community.
What’s your favourite jazz song or artist?
There are so many greats, and I'm still trying to catch my breath in the vast ocean of swing jazz. I do have a thing for 'Daytrain' by Oscar Peterson Trio though, if I had to pick one.I especially appreciate songs with a strong rhythm and that can guide you through various energies and moods which lends itself well to some interesting and fun dance improvisation.
Fun fact or secret talent?
I love dancing Lindy Hop! Wait, fun but not secret. I have played various instruments since childhood and still do occasionally. However, now the musical instruments have mostly been replaced with the bodily instrument!
